ORS and TLO staff will assist researchers in preparing appropriate forms for use under confidentiality agreements and employment contracts for principal investigators who hire staff under research agreements. Failure to protect the confidentiality of the personal data of a candidate or arbitrator is a ground for discipline. A research contract is usually negotiated and signed between the university and the institution. Any research agreement should be verified and approved by Research Services. The aim is to ensure that the rights of researchers and the university are protected and that the terms of the agreement are not contrary to SFU guidelines. Confidential or proprietary information can be available in many different forms. Staff and committees composed of teachers and/or staff, students and members of the outside community make these decisions, often using letters of reference received from third parties.
